Men, women fall in weekend road matches

Plainview, N.Y.  (June 29, 2009) - As the 2009 USL season wraps up, the Long Island Rough Riders men's and women's team lost two key matches on Sunday. The men traveled to Ottawa and lost to the Fury 1-0 while the women were defeated by the Hudson Valley Quickstrike 4-2 in Newburgh.

Despite the loss, the men (10-2-1, 31pts.) hold on to their first-place standing in the Northeast Division, but their lead over Ottawa is now just four points, with the Fury having two games in hand. With two losses over the weekend, the Rough Riders women (5-5-1, 16 pts.) dropped to fifth place and are six points out of first place with five games remaining.

After a nine day break, the Rough Riders will return home on Wednesday, July 8th when the women’s team hosts the Hudson Valley Quickstrike at 5PM and the men take on the Brooklyn Knights at 8PM. Both games will be played at Cy Donnelly Stadium at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y. SoccerTots Long Island will be giving out soccer beach balls to the first 400 kids in attendance.
