Rough Riders Visit Wheatley Heights Camp

Wheatley Heights, N.Y. (June 30, 2009) - Two members of the Long Island Rough Riders visited the Barry and Florence Friedberg Jewish Community Center Explorers Camp this morning to speak to the children about how to be a successful soccer player, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Rough Riders men’s team player Josh Cruz and office staff worker Jorge Perez also split the 85 children in attendance into groups and performed several dribbling and shooting drills. To end the visit, Cruz and Perez participated with the children two scrimmage games. Teddy, the Rough Riders official mascot made an appearance lending a hand during the scrimmage and signing autographs for the children.

"These appearances are a great for our organization to connect with the community, especially kids," said Flavio Ferri, Rough Riders general manager. "We’re looking forward to having the Explorer Camp at our game on the 11th."

The Explorers Camp will be attending the Rough Riders women’s team game against the New York Magic on Saturday, July 11th at 6PM. The children will be serving as "Ball Kids" during the game and performing a dance called "The Apache" during half time.
