New Rough Riders Training Programs at Globall

The Long Island Rough Riders have announced their 2009/10 indoor training programs to be held at the Globall Sports Centers located at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale and the Cunningham Sports Center in Fresh Meadows, Queens.

Training programs at both facilities will commence in October with an initial three-week course. Concurrent eight-week classes will follow until the spring of 2010.

"The Rough Riders training programs are the best way to help a player improve their skills and become confident handling the ball," said Rough Riders Director of Coaching John Diffley. "Muscle memory and repetition are important elements of our training programs that will dramatically improve player development."

Based on the demand from previous years, the Rough Riders have expanded their selection of training courses to include:

- BALL MASTERY: Fast footwork / 1st Touch, Control & Passing / One vs. One
- FUTSAL SERIES: Futsal 101 / Futsal Footwork / Futsal Tactics
- GOALKEEPER SERIES: Goalkeeper 101 / Goalkeeper Intermediate / Advanced
- OPERATION KICK START: New for players 4 to 7 years old
- PERSONAL INSTRUCTION: New private professional training sessions
- STRIKER SERIES: Goal Scoring 101 / Finishing School / Finishing School Advanced

About the Long Island Rough Riders

The Long Island Rough Riders have been part of the Long Island soccer scene since their inception in 1994. The Rough Riders men and women’s team won their first National Championship in 1995. The Rough Riders men’s team featured former US National Team members Chris Armas, Tony Meola, and Rough Riders Director of Coaching John Diffley as well as MLS stars Jim Rooney and Giovanni Savarese. Since their initial success, the Rough Riders men’s team has gone on to win the United Soccer League (USL) 2nd Division National Championship in 2002 and has sent numerous players to Major League Soccer (MLS).

In 2007 the Rough Riders reacquired a W-League franchise, which was formerly known as the Lady Riders. The Rough Riders women’s team qualified for the Eastern Conference Finals in 2008.

In recent years, the Rough Riders organization has expanded to include the Junior Rough Riders program, featuring elite level players from 8 to 17 years of age.  Junior Rough Riders teams from 13 to 17 years old participate in the Super Y-League (SYL), the youth component of the USL.
