South Huntington, NY (Saturday, June 9, 2012) - The Long Island Rough Riders defeated the Westchester Flames 5-1, dominating the game in front of an excited home-town crowd at Cy Donnelly Stadium to complete the nightcap of the day’s doubleheader.
The Rough Riders are now on a two game winning streak after defeating the Bermuda Hogges 2-0 earlier in the week.
Rough Rider’s veteran Ben Arikian scored two goals in the first half and then another in the 48th minute, completing a hat trick. The team played it’s most consistent game of the year controlling the action from start to finish.
The game opened up further in the 68th minute when Sean Sepe was taken down inside the box and was awarded a penalty shot. Tyler Arnone took the shot for the Rough Riders and SCORED making the score now 4-0 in favor of the home side.
Less than a minute later Keith Detelj received a great pass from midfielder Sean Sepe. Detelj did was he does best, faked out the goalkeeper and scored in the empty net to make the score 5-0.
In the 85th minute Flames striker Jake Keegan scored off of a cross from Alex Rodier, making the score 5-1. With just minutes left on the clock, it was too little too late and the Rough Riders handedly won the match.
"The Rough Riders looked as sharp as they have all season," said Long Island Rough Riders Vice-President Flavio Ferri, "The team will play four pivotal away games in a row over the next two weeks that will determine what this team is made of."
