Ludemann Provides Offense

The Rough Riders Women traveled to DePaul High School on Saturday June 5th to play against the North Jersey Valkyries.  This game was the first of two New Jersey match ups this past weekend. 

The Rough Riders topped North Jersey 1-0, improving their record to 3-2-0.  North Jersey dropped to 0-2-0 on the season, following up a 3-1 loss against the NJ Rangers in their home opener. 

Both teams held strong defensively throughout the first half, as the offenses struggled to get on the board.  The Rough Riders were able to break through in the 43rd minute on an unassisted goal by Midfielder CJ Ludemann. 

Holding onto a 1-0 heading into the second half, the Rough Riders looked to secure the victory in the final 45 minutes.  The Rough Riders defensive core (Weber, Barsley and Ayinde) played for the duration and provided the stopping power needed to keep the Valkyries off the board.

“I was very proud with our defense today,” said Rough Riders Head Coach Steve Cadet. “We were able to take advantage early, and hold on for the remainder of the game.”

Wildcats Shut Out Women

The Long Island Rough Riders Women were riding high off their 1-0 victory against the North Jersey Valkyries, with the hope of sweeping their weekend road trip.  The Women were 3-2-0 heading into this matchup, looking to jump ahead of Quickstrike in the point column within their division.   

The Wildcats started their 2010 season with a 3-3 draw against the Washington Freedom on May 27th.  The ten day lay-off did not seem to have an effect on New Jersey’s squad, as they defeated the Rough Riders 2-0 on Sunday June 6th.

Long Island’s Rebecca Wachsberger surrendered goals to Kylee Rossi (28th minute, assist by Fuccello) and to Jess Fuccello (87th minute, assist by Rossi).  The Wildcat’s keeper, Caroline Williams, kept the Rough Riders off the board saving five shots on goal.   

The Rough Riders will travel again this Friday June 11th to Maryland Soccer Plex to faceoff against the Washington Freedom Futures at 7:00 PM.
