Women Drop Season Finale

Plainview, NY (July 20, 2010) – The Long Island Rough Riders Women season ended in defeat at Cy Donnelly Stadium.  They fell to the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues 1-0.

The Rough Riders finished the season playing their best soccer of the year, but could not overtake the Lady Blues this past Sunday.  Hudson Valley claimed the regular season crown, finishing first in their division and earning an automatic bid to the playoffs.  The Lady Blues finished their regular season with an 11-1-0 mark.

In the 16th minute the Lady Blues got on the board from a goal by Forward Jackie Acevedo.  Despite the Rough Riders pressure, this would be all the offense Quickstrike needed to obtain victory, and receive the top seed within their division.

The Women’s best chance came on a penalty kick in the 70th minute from Laura Greene.  The Rough Riders forward blasted a shot, which look destined for the back of the net.  The Lady’s Blues keeper, Ashley Thompson, made a diving stop to keep the score in favor of Quickstrike.

The Long Island Rough Riders won four out of their last five games, to make a legitimate push for a playoff spot.  Unfortunately, their push came a little too late, and they were ousted from the playoffs on the last day of the season.

“I am very proud at how my girls finished off this season,” said first year Head Coach Steve Cadet.  “After a slow start early in the year, we were able to bounce back and make a run at the playoffs.  I have great confidence that this group can reach the postseason in 2011.”

The Long Island Rough Riders Women finished the season fourth in their division, with 21 points and a 7-5-0 record.
