UNIONDALE, N.Y. – (Monday, April 19, 2021) – The Long Island Rough Riders men’s team is pleased to announce the additions of Jake Barros and Mickael Borger for the upcoming 2021 United Soccer League Two season.
Barros played two years at the University of Albany before heading overseas to play for the Portuguese football club, Atlético Arcos, and Spanish third division club, CD Sarinena the following year. The Selden, NY native returns home to the Long Island area where he earned All-Region, All-State, All-Long Island, and league MVP honors in Highschool.
“Jake is a terrific player with a wealth of international experience. He is back in the USA and we are delighted he’s going to be a Rough Rider.” Rough Riders Head Coach Tom Bowen Said. “He will bring a level of professionalism to training and help improve the younger guys around him.”
Borger, a native of Joeuf, France, plays collegiately for Temple University. A key player for Temple’s backline, he started in all 17 games, scoring 5 points (2G, 1A) in his rookie season with the Owls. Prior to Temple, Mickael played for Boulogne sur mer in the third division of France from 2016-18 and Amneville in the fourth division of France from 2018-19.
“Mickael is a fantastic addition to the squad this year. We have a great relationship with Temple and anyone who starts in their back 4 will be a top player.” Bowen Said. “He brings international experience and his attacking abilities from right back will fit in perfectly with how we want to play.”
