PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City FC, today are pleased to announce the signings of Jacob Bohm, Dylan Castanheira, and Jørgen Oland for the upcoming 2018 season.

Castanheira returns to the Rough Riders this season after another successful campaign at Columbia University. The goalkeeper was named first team All-Ivy League, allowing just eight goals in 18 matches (0.425 GAA) for the Lions. He recorded an .846 save percentage, with a 12-3-3 record, and 11 shutouts, which was second most in school history.

“It’s great to bring back Dylan after his excellent season last year,” Rough Riders first-year head coach Stephen Roche said. “I know he is as determined as all the returning players to go further than last year. He’s an excellent goalkeeper who has all the tools and attitude to go very far in the game. Dylan is coming off another great season with an excellent Columbia team.”

Bohm and Oland both starred on the back line for Fordham University in the fall, helping the Rams to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. A native of Germany, Bohm had three goals and one assist in 17 games (14 starts) as a freshman. Oland, a native of Norway, scored five goals in 22 games (all starts) as a sophomore.

“Jørgen and Jacob both were integral parts of the fantastic season by Fordham this year,” Roche said. “Jørgen is powerful center back with a knack for scoring goals, while Jacob is a versatile player with a great pedigree. Both come from a program with very high expectations and know how to win.”

The trio join the Rough Riders, who are coming off a 10-2-5 campaign en route to the 2017 PDL Eastern Conference Final. Long Island, which finished runner-up in the Northeast Division, defeated Mid-Atlantic winners New York Red Bulls U-23 in an Eastern Conference play-in game. The Rough Riders beat the Myrtle Beach Mutiny, winners of the South Division, in the conference semifinals, before losing to eventual PDL champion Charlotte on penalty kicks in the conference final.

Long Island begins its 2018 season against Kingston Stockade FC at 7 p.m. May 9 at John Burns Park in Massapequa, N.Y., in the first round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Rough Riders open PDL play on the road against Red Bulls U-23 at 7 p.m. May 12 at Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J.
