Coach led women to UWS Eastern Conference third-place finish in 2016
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – (Monday, April 24, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders women’s team is pleased today to announce Steve Cadet will return as head coach for the upcoming 2017 season.
Cadet has been in charge of the Rough Riders since being appointed in April 2010. This is his seventh season at the helm. Long Island went 4-3-3 in its debut season in United Women’s Soccer in 2016. The Rough Riders, who were tied for second best in goals against, finished third in the Eastern Conference with 15 points.
“We are delighted to have Steve lead our women’s team for another season,” Rough Riders general manager Flavio Ferri said. “He is a true professional and his knowledge and leadership is invaluable to the club.”
Prior to joining the Rough Riders organization, Cadet was an assistant women’s soccer coach at Hofstra University and Adelphi University, helping lead the Panthers to the 1997 NCAA quarterfinals. As a player, Cadet was part of the Rough Riders’ national championship-winning teams in 1997 and 2002. He was inducted into the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame in 2016.
“I am honored be back to coach such a storied franchise,” Cadet said. “We were a young team last year and hopefully the experience we gained in so many close games will pay dividends during the 2017 season. Our goal is to make a return to the playoffs and compete for a UWS Championship.”
