An educational workshop designed to teach athletes and coaches proven strategies on how to recognize, take action, and return an athlete safely to competition following a concussion:
During this educational workshop you will hear from a Sports Medicine Physician as well as an Athletic Trainer on: What is a concussion? The dangers of returning too soon! Understanding the New York State Concussion Management and Awareness Act.
Rupinder Johal, MD:
Dr. Johal is a primary care sports medicine physician who specializes in the treatment and prevention of non-operative sports related injuries. She focuses on the comprehensive health of athletes of all ages. She is originally from California and completed her residency training in primary care at Kaiser Permanente Southern California, during which she served as chief resident. Her experiences include working at the Professional level with the Ontario Reign (Minor league affiliate to Los Angeles Kings (NHL)), at the collegiate setting with California State University, UC Irvine, and Pomona Pitzer College. Dr. Johal has also served as an attending physician for the Little League World Series.
Christopher Napoli, MS, ATC:
Chris joined Winthrop University Hospital in 2012 providing athletic training services to Garden City high school. His experiences include working as an Athletic Trainer with the NFL (New York Jets), and collegiate level with Hofstra University. Chris is also an Adjunct professor for the Athletic Training Education Program at Hofstra University.
This will be a 30-40 minute lecture, followed by a True/False quiz for the attendees, followed by Question and Answer.
