Long Island Rough Riders goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty is part of the initial list of players registered and eligible for the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, the league announced.
The draft will take place at 12 p.m. on January 10, 2019, at the United Soccer Coaches Convention at McCormick Place in Chicago.
“I think Kelsey will be a great pick up for any team that drafts her,” Rough Riders head coach Karim Diallo said. “I wish her all the best.”
A 2018 Rough Riders Player of the Year candidate, Daugherty made 41 saves this summer for Long Island (5-3-2). A senior at the University of Alabama Birmingham, Daugherty capped her collegiate career this fall by being named Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year. She was also named to the All-Conference USA First Team and C-USA All-Academic Team.
Daugherty, who set the UAB career record for saves (351), made 92 saves in 18 games this season for the Blazers with a 0.99 goals against average. She also had six shutouts.
“She is a good goalkeeper with a tremendous work ethic,” Diallo said. “Kelsey’s wonderful agility helps her make some saves we thought were impossible. Our team was very comfortable building out of the back because we knew she has great feet; she’s able to make 30-45 yard passes on the money.”
