The Long Island Rough Riders women’s team is pleased to announce Allyson Baner, Taylor Groth, Kaitlin Loughren and Amanda Buck have re-signed with the club ahead of the 2019 United Women’s Soccer season.
Baner, a center back, registered 720 minutes in eight matches on the back line that had the third-best defense in the UWS East Conference in 2018 with 17 goals allowed. She played 13 games (all starts) during her senior season at Stony Brook University, helping the Seawolves advance to the America East semifinals.
“Allyson had a great season with Stony Brook this past fall,” Rough Riders head coach Karim Diallo said. “She’s a quiet leader in the back, but is solid and technically sound.”
Lining up alongside Baner again this summer will be Groth. The Adelphi University graduate also tallied 720 minutes in eight matches last season for the Rough Riders (5-3-2).
“Taylor is very good at winning the ball both on the ground and in the air,” Diallo said. “She was the most vocal and helped organize our defense.”
Loughren had two assists in 14 games (all starts) for Stony Brook this past fall. Like her fellow defenders, she recorded 720 minutes in eight matches for Long Island in 2018.
“Kaitlin is an attacking left back who gave us a great deal of width when we attacked,” Diallo said.
Buck joined the Rough Riders midway through last season, making three appearances. She played in 48 games (38 starts) with one goal in her career at Wagner University.
“Amanda was a much needed signee at that point because not only were we in need of defenders but she was a good one as well,” Diallo said. “We got much more stable in the back from that point on.”
The Rough Riders open their 2019 UWS campaign against the Connecticut Fusion on Saturday, May 11. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
