Former Long Island Rough Riders defender Tim Parker was called up to the United States Men’s National Team for their upcoming camp and friendly in January.
The USMNT, which failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, will hold camp from Jan. 11-29 in Southern California. The Americans play Bosnia and Herzegovina in a friendly on Jan. 28 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
“We’re excited about our 2018 January camp roster. It’s all about the future and opportunity,” Sarachan said in a release. “We clearly feel that we want to have a look at these players that have the chance to be a part of the National Team for a number of years to come. It’s a long journey forward, but this is the first step starting in 2018 for the program and for these players to now get experience at this level.”
Parker, a native of Hicksville, N.Y., played for the Rough Riders during the 2012 PDL season. The defender played in 79 of 80 total games during a four-year career at St. John’s University, earning first team All-Big East honors as a junior and second team all-conference honors as a sophomore.
The 24-year-old is still looking for his first USMNT senior cap, having been called up to the squad twice prior — camp in January 2016, and a friendly against New Zealand in October 2016.
Parker registered his first MLS goal and assist this past season for Vancouver, making 32 regular-season starts. He played every minute of the Whitecaps’ MLS Cup Playoffs run, assisting in the knockout round win against win against the San Jose Earthquakes.
