Long Island Rough Riders players Kayla Saager, Kaitlin Loughren, Christina Bellero and Jennifer Buoncore were recently honored for their achievements this fall during their respective NCAA seasons.
Saager, a senior forward at Binghamton University, and Loughren, a senior defender at Stony Brook University, were named to the America East Conference second team; Bellero, a senior forward at St. John’s University, was named to the Big East Conference second team; and Buoncore, a senior forward at Hofstra University, was named to the Colonial Athletic Association second team.
The postseason NCAA accolades don’t stop there for the Rough Riders women’s team. Goalie Kelsey Daugherty was named the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year.
Saager had 11 goals and a team-high five assists in 18 starts for the Bearcats; her 27 points were second best in the America East. Loughren was a stalwart on the back line for Stony Brook with two assists in 19 games. Bellero had six goals and four assists in 19 games (17 starts) for the Red Storm. Buoncore had three goals and 13 assists in 21 starts for the Pride.
Buoncore and Hofstra play Boston College in the first round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament on Nov. 9.
