Grella scores fastest goal in MLS history

It took former Rough Rider and Glen Cove, LI native Mike Grella only 7 seconds to score in the last home game in the regular season against Philadelphia Union this Sunday, October 18th 2015.

The 28-year-old got his foot onto a way ward pass from the Philadelphia Union kick off. Sprinting through on goal, he sent a left-footed shot deflecting off the defender and past goalkeeper Andre Blake.

Grella’s goal broke the previous record of eight seconds, which was set almost exactly two years ago, on Oct. 20, 2013 by another New York Red Bulls player: Tim Cahill.

Congratulations Mike on an outstanding season so far!  Watch his goal here.
