The results are in for the Long Island Rough Riders Player of the Year. The finalists for the award were Daniel Gwyther, Colin Murphy, Dom Marshall, and Junior Rosero. Gwyther won the award after receiving 52% of the vote.
“It’s very humbling to be voted Player of the Year. There were some very good players in contention for the award this year so to be recognized for my performances is a great accomplishment.” Gwyther said.
Gwyther led the backline for the Rough Riders and played the most minutes of any player on the season. Traditionally, goal scorers will get the praise but Gwyther knows the importance of a strong defense. “Defenders don’t always get the headlines like the attacking Players do for reasons that are obvious, but ask any coach and he will tell you that a strong defense is the base for a good team.”, said Gwyther.
The Long Island Rough Riders consistently breed great players and Daniel Gwyther was happy to be recognized as one of the club’s best. Gwyther said, “The Rough Riders have a long and storied history of great players who have represented the national team and played at the World Cup who have won the award so to join that list is a great honor.”
