Long Island Rough Riders midfielder Harry Pearse has been named to the 2018 PDL Top Prospects List. The list features the top-50 prospects in the league. Pearse was ranked No. 22.
In his first season with Long Island, Pearse has four appearances (all starts), including in both matches of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
“When I got the job, Harry was one of the first players I wanted to sign,” first-year head coach Stephen Roche said. “I have seen him play many times for LIU Post in the past and he was always a joy to watch.”
Pearse, a native of London, led LIU Post with 11 assists last fall, while adding six goals in 21 games (all starts). A member of the 2017 D2CCA All-East Region Second-Team, Pearse earned his first All-America honors following his final collegiate season.
“On his day he can take over a game and will contribute this season with assists and goals, no doubt,” Roche said. “He is a great presence in the locker room as well.”
Roche expects big things out of Pearse this season as the Rough Riders (4-1-0 overall; 3-0-0 PDL) look to surpass last season’s success which resulted in an appearance in the 2017 PDL Eastern Conference Final and subsequent berth in this season’s U.S. Open Cup.
“We are hoping a great season with us will land him some pro offers over the summer,” Roche said.
Long Island, which is coming off a 1-0 victory at FA Euro on May 22, returns to action against Evergreen FC on June 2. Kickoff is 7 p.m. from Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va.
