The Long Island Rough Riders secured an important road victory yesterday against the Lancaster Inferno at Millersville University in a highly contested UWS match up. Coming off a loss on the road last week to the New England Mutiny, the Rough Riders were determined to pick up the 3 points in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Rough Riders controlled the early going and were rewarded by a goal from Laura Gomez off an assist from Ally Baner mid-way through the first half. The Inferno were able to tie the game up on the last play of the 1st half on direct kick from just outside the box. The second half began with both teams pushing to take the lead. The Rough Riders were able to break through when striker Erin Neville was taken down in the box. Neville calmly stepped up and hit a solid strike to convert the PK to the give the Riders a 2 – 1 lead. Both teams generated good chances to alter the score line, but in the end the Rough Riders held on for the win which moved them up to 3rd in the UWS Eastern Conference.
