Premier Program Update

Premier Program Update

This past Sunday, the Rough Riders kicked off it’s year long Premier Program.  The program is held at Saint Anthony’s High School in Melville and focuses on players becoming a part of an elite community, representing all of Long Island. Rough Riders Premier Teams participate in local, regional, and national competitions on a year-round basis.

The professional coaching staff has experience ranging from the United States National Team, Major League Soccer, European professional leagues, Youth National Team, regional teams, and top-level college soccer programs.

The Premier Program Teams create results year in and year out.  Just recently, two of the Premier Teams took home trophies from their most recent tournament!

Both the Boys 2009 team, coached by Dan Gwyther, and Girls 2005 team, coached by John Diffley, won their respective divisions at the Globall Sports Centers Thanksgiving Tournament!  These teams are just the tip of the iceberg as teams within the Jr. Rough Riders youth program range from U7-U17.  The club looks to develop teams and players that can compete at the highest levels both regionally and nationally.

Recently, former Premier Program player Alex Schachinger was named to the 2016 Super Y League National Player Pool.  He has been preparing for the SYL North American Finals in a unique way, learning from an English Premier League champion, Leicester City player Christian Fuchs.

Schachinger, who played this past summer with the Rough Riders U-14 team, credits parts of his success to Paul Curran – his Rough Riders coach in the Super Y League.  “Coach Paul was an excellent coach during the season, but he also had a great sense of humor and made sure games and practices were always fun.  I have great friends from my Rough Riders team. We played hard and always had an excellent time together,” said Schachinger on his experience with the Rough Riders.

It is players like Alex Schachinger that allow for the Premier Program to evolve and grow every year.  He is an example of what great soccer products the Rough Riders look to produce from each and every level of the youth system!
