Kayla Saager signs pro contract with 1. FC Slovácko Ženy in Czech Republic

Long Island Rough Riders forward Kayla Saager signed her first professional contract, joining 1. FC Slovácko Ženy of the Czech First Division.

The forward led Long Island with six goals in 2018 and tied for the team lead this summer with four goals. She is the Rough Riders leading scorer in the club’s United Women’s Soccer era with 17 goals and two assists (36 points) in three seasons while helping guide Long Island to the 2017 East Conference championship.

Saager led Binghamton University with 11 goals during her senior season in 2018 and left the program second all-time in goals per game (0.59) and points per game (1.51). Her collegiate career also had stops at North Carolina State (2014) and West Virginia University (2015) before transferring to Binghamton for the final two years of her eligibility. In her first year with the Bearcats in 2017, Saager topped the America East with 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points as a junior and was named conference Striker of the Year.

She tweeted: “I’m so excited to get started on my professional career. Many thanks to my amazing coaches and teammates at Binghamton, who prepared me for this moment. Once a Bearcat … always a Bearcat!”

1. FC Slovácko Ženy finished in third place in the Czech First Division six times between 2005-11 and finished runner-up in 2001 and 2002. The team advanced to the Czech Women’s Cup final in 2009 and 2018.
