UNIONDALE, N.Y. – (Monday, May 3, 2021) – The Long Island Lady Rough Riders women’s team is pleased to announce the additions of Christina Bellero and Claudia Cagnina for the upcoming 2021 United Women’s Soccer season.
Bellero, a graduate of St. John’s University, re-signs with the Rough Riders after playing for the club in 2016. Most recently, she played professionally in Switzerland with Football Femminile Lugano 1976 of Lega Nazionale A for the 2019-2020 season. A native of Melville, N.Y., Bellero started in 45 games for St. John’s, scoring 20 goals and 11 assists.
“We are super excited to have Christina return with the Rough Riders this season.” Sporting Director Shannon Neely Noel said. “Her experience overseas and with the Rough Riders will provide tremendous value and we will look toward her leadership this season.”
Also joining the Rough Riders for the 2021 season is Bellero’s collegiate and professional teammate, Claudia Cagnina. The Lindenhurst, N.Y. native played four years at St. John’s University before heading overseas to play professionally for Football Femminile Lugano 1976 of Lega Nazionale A and most recently Spanish Segunda División Pro club Zaragoza CFF.
“Claudia is a huge talent, and we are excited to have her join the Rough Riders this season.” Head Coach Steve Price said. “She had a successful collegiate career at St. John’s and overseas at the professional level.”
The Rough Riders open their 2021 UWS campaign against the Brooklyn City FC on Saturday, May 22nd at 5:30pm.
