The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City FC, have three teams in the 2017 playoffs Tuesday.
The men, which finished runner-up in the PDL Eastern Conference Northeast Division, travel to New York Red Bulls Under-23, winners of the Mid-Atlantic Division. Kickoff is TIME at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J.
The Rough Riders women’s team, which won its final two games to qualify for the United Women’s Soccer playoffs, visits East Division winners New Jersey Copa FC in the East Final. Kickoff is TBA at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J.
Long Island’s Under-23 men’s team also qualified for the Long Island Soccer Football League playoffs. The team, which finished second in the Ryder-Vass Summer U-23 Nassau East division, plays Southampton FC Colonials U-23. Kickoff is 6:15 p.m. at Division Avenue High School Field #1 in Levittown, N.Y.
“It’s a tremendous accomplishment to not only have one team qualify for the playoffs, but to have three is outstanding,” Long Island general manager Flavio Ferri said. “Our teams showed the grit and determination, especially down the stretch, in order to achieve this goal we set forth prior to the season. We’re excited at the opportunities in front of us Tuesday.”
The Rough Riders men’s squad went 8-2-4 during the regular season, finishing the campaign second in their division. They had the division’s second-best defense (19 goals allowed), and were third in scoring (29 goals for).
The women’s team went 7-2-1 during the regular season, splitting two games against NJ Copa — a 3-0 home win on May 20 and a 2-1 away loss on June 25. The Rough Riders had a division-leading plus-25 goal differential.
Long Island’s U-23 side went 4-0-2 this season, scoring three or more goals on four occasions.
