PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City FC, are pleased today to announce Scott Maloney as the club’s technical director for the upcoming 2018 season.

In his new role, Maloney will be responsible for leading the daily technical operations and technical staff of all Rough Riders supplemental youth teams, player and coach development programs, competitions, and leagues.

“I’m excited to take on this responsibility and work with the coaching staff and continue to help build the Rough Riders brand and continue to build that presence on Long Island,” Maloney said.

Maloney, a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, spent the prior two years as the Rough Riders youth administrator, assisting the prior technical directors. He currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) D License. Since joining the organization, Maloney helped recruit and sign more than 200 players to Long Island’s full-year pre-academy supplemental program.

He is also the head coach of the Rough Riders Under-14 boys pre-academy team that competes in the Super Y League.

“We are thrilled to see Scott continue to expand his responsibilities within our organization,” Rough Riders general manager Pedro Suarez said. “He has a proven track record of success since joining the Rough Riders and we’re looking forward to him taking on a larger role as our new technical director.”

Long Island’s men’s team, the 2017 Eastern Conference runner-up, opens the 2018 season on the road against New York Red Bulls Under-23 at 7 p.m. May 12 at Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J. The defending Eastern Conference champion women’s team begins their new campaign at New Jersey Copa FC in an Eastern Conference Final rematch at 4:30 p.m. on May 12 at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J.
