The Long Island Rough Riders women’s team looks to keep momentum going into the second half of the United Women’s Soccer season when they visit the Rochester Lancers on June 2.
Kickoff is 2 p.m. Sunday from the Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y.
Long Island comes into the match following a 2-0 win against local rivals New Jersey Copa FC on May 22. Grace Hawkins found the back of the net for the third consecutive game and leads the team with three goals.
“Grace is able to take her chances and finish,” head coach Karim Diallo said. “She’s been efficient in front of net, so hopefully she keeps putting herself in good positions and finishes her chances.”
The Rough Riders (2-2-0), who come into the weekend tied for second in the East Conference standings at six points, conclude their current three-game road trip and the first half of the 2019 campaign against the Lancers.
Rochester (1-1-1) picked up its first win of the season on May 25, defeating Worcester Smiles 6-0 thanks to braces by Leah Wengender (two assists) and Claire Myers (assist).
Long Island has struggled to find consistency this season, alternating wins and losses through the first four games. Diallo is hopeful the team’s first win streak of the season starts Sunday.
“A win would be great to end the three-game road trip,” he said.
