The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive USL League Two affiliate of New York City FC, suffered their first defeat of 2019, losing 3-1 to Ocean City Nor’easters on May 22 at Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
Long Island drop to 2-1-0 with the loss, while Ocean City improves to 1-0-1 with the victory.
Deri Corfe scored a pair of goals and earned a penalty kick which was converted for Ocean City’s third score, while Manu Ferriol scored from the spot for the Rough Riders before being sent off in stoppage time.
The Nor’easters took a 1-0 lead in the second minute as Corfe slotted the ball into the back of the net. The midfielder was taken down in the box in the 12th minute as Claudio Repetto doubled the away side’s advantage. Corfe completed his first-half brace with a goal in the 44th minute for a 3-0 lead.
Ocean City maintained its three-goal advantage at halftime.
Long Island, coming into the match with consecutive shutout victories, avoided being shutout with a goal in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. It was Ferriol’s second goal of the campaign.
The Rough Riders hit the road for the first time in 2019 with a visit to FA Euro New York on May 28. Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. from Poly Prep.
