Anthony Alfonso scored for the second consecutive game as the Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive USL League Two affiliate of New York City FC, played to a 1-1 draw against Reading United AC on June 26 at Wilson High School in West Lawn, Pa.

The Rough Riders improve to 4-1-4 (16 points) after the result, while 2018 national runners up Reading United AC remain unbeaten at 8-0-2 (26 points).

Long Island is still in second place in the Mid Atlantic Division, behind Reading, which has a 10-point lead.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Alfonso pounced on a loose ball in Reading’s penalty box following a throw in, knotting the score at 1-1 in the 77th minute. Long Island, which extended its unbeaten run to six games, sailed a shot over the crossbar in the 87th minute and remained resolute on defense in stoppage time to secure the hard-fought point on the road.

Reading United AC took the lead in the 18th minute on a goal by Felipe Hideki. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The match featured a pair of hydration stoppages on the humid evening.

The Rough Riders return to action against Evergreen FC (0-7-3; 3 points) on June 29. Kickoff is 7 p.m. from Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va.
