The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive USL League Two affiliate of New York City FC, extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-1 draw against New York Red Bulls Under-23 on July 2 at Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J.
Sean Zawadzki scored off an assist from Matt Sloan as Long Island rallied to split the spoils with New York. The Rough Riders, who haven’t lost since May 22, improve to 5-1-5 (20 points) following the draw, while Red Bulls U-23 are now 3-3-5 (14 points).
Long Island remains in second place in the Mid Atlantic Division, trailing unbeaten Reading United AC (8-0-3; 27 points).
The game between the two local rivals was scoreless at halftime and it wasn’t until JP Marin’s shot put the home side ahead in the second half. Zawadzki equalized later in the game as the Rough Riders picked up a crucial point away from home to conclude their four-game road trip.
Long Island returns to action against Evergreen FC on Saturday, July 6. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
