Kerianne Scorce scored two goals to help lead the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team to a 2-0 victory over the Rochester Lancers on June 2 at Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y.
Long Island improves to 3-2-0 with the victory, while Rochester drops to 1-2-1.
The Rough Riders took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on Scorce’s first goal of the season. Rochester was unable to clear a Long Island corner that was lifted back into the box. The ball was chested down where Scorce pounced on the volley and hit it into the far post for a one-goal advantage.
The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Scorce doubled her season total in the second half, finding the back of the net again in the 59th minute off a cross from Kayla Saager to make it 2-0.
The victory was the second consecutive shutout for the Rough Riders, who are currently second in the United Women’s Soccer East Conference standings with nine points. Connecticut Fusion (3-0-1) lead the table with 10 points.
Long Island’s next game is against Worcester Smiles (0-4-0) on June 5. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
