Kayla Saager scored three goals to lead the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team to a 6-0 rain-shortened victory against the Worcester Smiles on June 5 at Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
Amanda Buck and Kim Marra also found the back of the net for the Rough Riders, who extend their win streak to three games.
Buck got Long Island on the board in the 16th minute before the Rough Riders doubled their lead five minutes later on an own goal for the winless visitors.
Saager then took over, completing her hat trick in 14 minutes, scoring in the 34th, 37th and 48th minutes to give the United Women’s Soccer East Conference-leading Rough Riders (4-2-0; 12 points) a five-goal cushion.
Marra rounded out the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 57th minute. The game was suspended 30 minutes due to a lightning delay then was officially ended in the 58th minute.
Not only was the result a third-consecutive win for Long Island, it was also a third straight shutout as Shannon Gray kept the Smiles (0-5-0) off the scoresheet.
The Rough Riders’ next game is at Lancaster Inferno on June 15. Kickoff is 5 p.m. from Millersville University in Millersville, Pa.
