UNIONDALE, N.Y. – (Wednesday, April 28, 2021) – The Long Island Rough Riders men’s team is pleased to announce the additions of Kyle Perno and Stephen Betz for the upcoming 2021 United Soccer League Two season.
Kyle Perno, a native of New Hyde Park, N.Y., re-signs with the Rough Riders after playing for the club in 2018. He played collegiately for one year at UC Santa Barba before transferring to Penn State to finish out his three years of NCAA eligibility. Prior to college, Perno spent three seasons with the New York Red Bulls Academy.
“Kyle is another New Yorker with great experience having played for two of the biggest and best soccer universities in the country (Penn State and UCSB).” Rough Riders head Coach Tom Bowen said. “He’s an attacking left-back and fits in perfectly with how we want to set up and play.”
Betz, also a native New Yorker, made his freshman debut with Syracuse University this past Fall. A Defender/Midfielder, he played for the Levittown Gunners FC before playing for New York City FC’s Development Academy.
‘Stephen is a local lad who knows what’s it about to play in New York and for the Rough Riders.” Sporting Director Stephen Roche said. “Playing in the ACC, he’s playing with and against top players every week. We expect him to come in and have a great summer with us.”
The Rough Riders open their 2021 USL2 campaign against NJ Copa FC on Saturday, May 22nd at 8:00 pm.
