Match Preview: Rough Riders at NJ Copa
May 2018

The Long Island Rough Riders women 2018 United Women’s Soccer opener¬†against New Jersey Copa FC scheduled for today has been postponed due to inclement weather.

A make-up date will be announced in the future.

Long Island and NJ Copa last faced in the 2017 Eastern Conference Final with the Rough Riders winning 5-1 and handing NJ Copa its only home defeat over the past two seasons. Long Island, which went 8-2-2 last year, advanced to the UWS National Championship Semifinal, losing to eventual league champion Grand Rapids FC on penalty kicks.

The Rough Riders, who scored a conference-best 35 goals in the regular season and tied for the second-best defense (10 goals allowed) in 2017, return UWS East Player of the Year Kim Marra, All-UWS defender Taylor Groth, and All-UWS East midfielder Alexa Schneider.

Karim Diallo, who won the 2002 USL D3 Pro League title as a member of the Rough Riders men’s team, takes over as head coach for the 2018 season.
