PLAINVIEW, NY- (Wednesday, March 22, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders are pleased to announce that hometown players Junior Rosero and Jeff Medina have signed for the 2017 season. After an extremely successful 2016 season with the Rough Riders, Rosero returns for his third season, while Medina is joining for his rookie season on Long Island.
Rosero has had an exceptional college career. TopDrawerSoccer named him the number ten college recruit coming out of New York in 2012. Rosero spent his freshman year (2013) at Stony Brook where he made appearances in eight games. His next two seasons would be at Siena College where he made an immediate impact. Medina also transferred from Stony Brook in 2013 which resulted in a transfer year in 2014 for University of Albany. In 2015 Medina started 15 games in 16 appearances at center back and helped the Great Danes to seven shutouts and a .81 GAA. Last season he made 18 starts and recorded two assists vs LIU Brooklyn.
Both Rosero and Medina are hoped to contribute greatly to the Rough Riders at opposite ends of the field. General Manager, Flavio Ferri states, “We are very pleased to sign two very talented local players. The Rough Riders have always been a platform for Long Island players to showcase their abilities. Junior was our leading scorer last year and I am expecting more of the same this year. He quality on and off the field make him a key signing for us. Jeff brings a wealth of experience to the squad having had an impressive college career as well as PDL experience. He will add depth and quality to back line that I think will be one of our strengths this year.”
Romero and Media both from Brentwood, New York, join Andre Morrison, Tom Wharf and Daniel Gwyther as the team’s signings for the 2017 season. The club will host open tryouts on Long Island on April 15 for current college players and graduated players who are looking to compete at a high level.
