Plainview, NY – The Long island Rough Riders were knocked out of the USL PDL Playoffs, as Jersey Express took home a 3 – 1 victory in a tough game on Tuesday night.

A free kick by Ben Whitcomb in the 3rd minute kicked off the game before Jersey’s Carlos Victor Alvarenga Silva kicked off a series of good counter attacks on both sides. Seconds after a Goalkeeper Gabriel Turner saved a long shot by Danny Kramer, Nealis came up with a good pass to Holland inside the box but Jersey’s defense was there to clear. In the 17th minute, Glen Reid intercepted a good attack by Alvarenga Silva, staring up a Rough Riders counter attack, but as Kramer failed to connect to the ball inside the box, Jersey created a huge chance as a shot by Sevag Kherlopian hit the crossbar.

The game continued with several chances on both sides. After a cross by Jersey’s Matthew Mahoney found Christopher Karcz inside the box leading to a good chance for the Express, Shaun Foster and Keith Detelj answered with great shots from just outside the box, but Turner was there to save. The first half came to a close at a score of 0 – 0 as a good shot by Joe Holland from inside the box was saved by Turner and Glen Reid’s pass failed to connect to him just seconds later.

Rough Riders Captain Danny Kramer scored the first goal of the day just minutes into the second half. A good shot from inside the box in the 48th minutes brought the Rough riders to the front. Just one minute after Joe Martin saved a great shot by Kherlopian, Alvarenga Silva scored the equalizer through an assist by Max Brodarzon in the 52nd minute. Exactly 10 minutes later, Kherlopian scored the second goal for Jersey Express in the 62nd minute.

Jersey now being up one, the Rough Riders were pushing for the equalizer but goalkeeper Turner saved Stefan Mueller’s shot from just outside the box. After Martin saved a good shot by William DaSilva in the 73rd minute, the Rough Riders started a series of counter attacks but Botte’s shot went just wide and Reid’s pass failed to connect inside the box. Just one minute after Turner saved a series of shots by Junior Rosero, Rajvir Kahlon scored for Jersey Express in the 87th minute. The game ended with another great shot by Rosero and a score of 3 – 1 for Jersey Express.

With this tough loss, the Rough Riders are eliminated from the playoffs but are already looking forward to come back strong and fight for the USL PDL 2016 Championship.
