Announce official supplemental partnership with Long Island SC

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (Tuesday, July 25, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders are pleased to announce a partnership with Long Island SC and the creation of a new player development platform called Rough Riders Pre-Academy.

Acting as the official supplemental partner of Long Island SC, a member of U.S. Soccer’s new Girls’ Development Academy, the Rough Riders will act as an island-wide player identification supplemental partner responsible for identifying, evaluating and recommending the top elite players to Long Island SC.

“This partnership provides a direct pathway for female players to be recognized by U.S. National Youth Teams and top collegiate coaches,” said Thomas Wharf, Long Island Rough Riders Technical Director. “We are very excited to be part of Long Island SC’s holistic approach with the intent to unify player development on Long Island while supporting U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy initiatives.”

Due in part to the new partnership and the ever-changing soccer environment on Long Island the Rough Riders Pre-Academy will replace the existing Rough Riders Premier program starting this fall with player trials set for September.

“The purpose of the Rough Riders Pre-Academy is simple,” said Flavio Ferri, Rough Riders General Manager. “The Rough Riders Pre-Academy will provide a direct connection with the player development objectives and mission of U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy.”

Players chosen for the Rough Riders Pre-Academy will be part of a talent pool designed to permeate the team rosters for the Long Island SC Girls’ Development Academy and New York City FC’s Boys’ DA teams, an existing youth affiliate of the Long Island Rough Riders.

To accomplish these goals the Pre-Academy will expand the total number of supplemental training sessions, utilize new centralized training facilities and implement new local, regional and national tournament/league competitions within their yearly program.  Additional announcement regarding program enhancements including new staff additions are expected to be released leading up to the Pre-Academy Pre-Trials.
