Clubs will share resources and provide year-round opportunities for players

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – (Wednesday, April 12, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City Football Club, today are proud to announce a partnership with New York Greek Americans of the Cosmopolitan League.

The partnership between the two clubs creates a means for players to continue playing together throughout the year after the United Soccer League’s PDL season concludes. It also provides a pathway for NYGA players to advance through U.S. Soccer’s ranks to the PDL level via the Rough Riders.

Long Island general manager Flavio Ferri will work alongside the NYGA coaching staff and directors observing and running sessions. There will be a full integration for the clubs as the men’s PDL team will be training jointly one night per week during the summer.

“The Long Island Rough Riders are excited to be partnering with one of the most storied amateur clubs in U.S. Soccer history,” Ferri said. “This partnership will allow our clubs to share resources and to be a year-round platform for high-level local players.”

N.Y. Greek Americans was formed in 1941. The team plays out of the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, N.Y. NYGA has won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup four times in club history, and has won five of the last 11 Eastern New York Championships.

“In essence we have felt support from the Rough Riders for years due to a number of core NYGA players who played for both squads in the past,” NYGA general manager George Mellis said. “It is great to finally have an official partnership and be able to further unite our teams through training and mutual player development.”
