PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders will open up their 21st season this Saturday, May 9th taking on Westchester Flames at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at Cy Donnelly Stadium on the campus of St. Anthony’s High School, South Huntington, N.Y.
Having played in different Divisions of PDLs Eastern Conference last year, this will be the first game of these two local rivals since 2013. The Rough Riders finished 3rdin last year’s Mid Atlantic Division while the Westchester Flames finished 7th in the Northeast Division.
“We are excited to open up our 2015 PDL season against one of our local rivals”, said Flavio Ferri, Rough Riders General Manager. “We’ve had some thrilling games against the Flames in previous seasons. We expect a tough game but we are focused on getting the three points at home to open up our season.”
The Rough Riders are heading into the 2015 season with immense expectations after having missed out on the playoffs in the penultimate game last season.
“We are anxious to provide a winning and entertaining brand of soccer to our loyal fans”, Ferri added. “With the existing core from last year and a few strategic additions, we are primed to make a run towards the playoffs.”
This upcoming season, the Rough Riders will play in the ten-team Mid Atlantic Division of the PDL, widely considered the toughest in the league.
