ROUGH RIDERS RE-SIGN GUGLIELMO
Goalie was fourth in United Women’s Soccer in saves in 2016
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – (Tuesday, April 4, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders women’s team is pleased today to announce the signing of goalkeeper Melissa Guglielmo for the upcoming 2017 season.
Guglielmo, 23, was the team’s starting goalie last season, and finished fourth in United Women’s Soccer with 32 saves. She allowed 10 goals in nine games (two shutouts) as the Rough Riders were tied for second best in goals against. Guglielmo was named UWS Defensive Player of the Week following a five-save performance in a 2-1 win at Lancaster on June 19.
“We are pleased to have Melissa back for the 2017 season,” general manager Flavio Ferri said. “She anchored a back line that was one of the best in the league. In addition to being a quality player, she is a quality person who is a positive influence on her teammates.”
Before joining the Rough Riders, Guglielmo starred for Division II Dowling College. She led the Golden Lions to the East Coast Conference championship in 2011 and ‘12, and was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014.
