Rough Riders Sign Roche
Experienced midfielder is assistant coach at Hofstra University
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – (Thursday, April 6, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City Football Club, today are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Stephen Roche for the 2017 season.
Roche, 30, is currently an assistant men’s soccer coach at Hofstra University. A native of Dublin, Ireland, Roche played professionally with the University College Dublin Football Club in the League of Ireland from 2009-10. He also played for FC New York (USL) in 2011 and the Lansdowne Bhoys.
“We are delighted to have such an experienced player like Stephen Roche joining our side for the upcoming season,” Rough Riders general manager Flavio Ferri said. “His knowledge of the game as a player and coach will be beneficial to our success.”
Roche joins the Rough Riders’ roster already comprised of forward Junior Rosero, midfielder Harrison Weilbacher, and defenders Jeff Medina, Andre Morrison, captain Tom Wharf, Stephen McKenna and Daniel Gwyther.
The Long Island Rough Riders open the 2017 season on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at home against the Westchester Flames.
