The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive USL League Two affiliate of New York City FC, are pleased to announce the signing of Alexander Dexter and Pierre Cayet for the upcoming 2019 season.
Dexter returns to the club for another season after having two goals and one assist in nine matches in 2018. Dexter, a rising junior forward at the University of Pittsburgh, led the Panthers with five assists and was third in points with nine. He found the back of the net twice for a Pitt team that won an ACC Tournament match for the first time in program history.
“We are delighted to welcome back Dexter,” Rough Riders head coach Stephen Roche said. “He has an infectious personality off the field and is an incredibly exciting player on the field. We are expecting more big things from him this summer.”
Cayet, a junior center back at Temple University, led the team in minutes (1,777), starting all 19 games for the Owls in 2018. He spearheaded the back line that limited opponents to within a one-goal margin in 18 games. Cayet had one goal and one assist on 11 shots and was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3.
“Pierre is a tough defender to go with his excellent ability to play out from the back,” Roche said. “Our defensive record needs to improve from 2018, and Pierre coming in will certainly help us achieve our goals.”
Long Island, which went 10-5-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the PDL last season, begins its 2019 USL League Two campaign against league newcomers Cedar Stars Rush on Saturday, May 11. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
