The Rough Riders Women’s Team opened up their UWS campaign on a rainy and windy night with a 1 -1 draw versus the Western New York Flash at home Saturday night. The Rough Riders began the game by applying pressure to the Western NY’s back line. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 18th minute on a goal by Rough Riders forward, Hope Quinonez. Despite absorbing a deal of pressure from the Rough Riders for most of the half, Western NY’s back line was able to hold strong and the half ended 1 – 0. The roles were reversed in the 2nd half, the Flash came out pushing forward which forced the Rough Riders to sit much deeper in their defensive zone. The Flash proceeded to equalize in the 86th minute from a cross by Brittany Heist that was headed in by Kaelyn Gamel. In game that saw each team dominate a half each, splitting the points seemed a fair result.
The Rough Riders face UWS finalists FC Copa next Saturday, May 20th at Cy Donnelly Stadium on the campus of St. Anthony’s High School.
