UNIONDALE N.Y. – (Tuesday, April 6, 2021) – The Long Island Lady Rough Riders are pleased to announce Shannon Neely Noel as the Sporting Director for the upcoming 2021 United Women’s Soccer season.

“I am excited to join such a respected name in the soccer community,” said Neely Noel. “I look forward to being a part of the Lady Rough Riders tradition of developing and advancing Long Island’s top female players to the next level of their careers.”

Neely Noel is currently working with the Long Island Soccer Club where she is the head coach of the ’04 and ’05 Girls Academy League teams. In addition, she serves as the Club’s Girls Assistant and Recruiting Director.

Neely Noel brings over a decade of successful collegiate coaching experience to the Lady Rough Riders. Most recently as the Associate Head Coach at Fordham University. During three years at Fordham, Neely Noel helped the Rams return to postseason play and secured the highest-rated recruiting class in program history. While working with the team’s offense, Neely Noel helped the team increase goal production and points earned in Atlantic 10 play.

Prior to Fordham, Neely Noel spent five years as the assistant coach at Northwestern University. The Wildcats saw historic success during these seasons, winning the first Big Ten Title in program history and seeing the program’s first All-American, Goalkeeper Lauren Clem. While Neely Noel worked with the goalkeeping group and defense the team set program, Big Ten and NCAA records; including fewest goals allowed in a season, goals against in a season and career, save percentage in a season, most shutouts in a season, and most career shutout for an individual.

Neely Noel began her coaching career at Grand Valley State University. During her time with the Lakers, GVSU advanced to the NCAA DII Finals three times, winning the first two National Championships in program history. Over three seasons, the Lakers compiled a 64-1-10 record. Neely Noel worked with goalkeepers and helped the defense to new statistical heights. In 2010, the team earned 21 shutouts and allowed only five goals in the regular season while shutting out all its NCAA tournament opponents. In her final season with the team, they held opponents to 11 goals in the entire season and posted 16 shutouts.

“We are delighted with Shannon’s appointment as the Sporting Director position for the Lady Rough Riders,” said Peter Zaratin, Rough Riders President. “Shannon has a wealth of experience in the college game and is a great communicator which supplements her coaching and her ability to help recruit top-level female players to accomplish our goal to secure a third National Championship for the franchise.”

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Neely Noel graduated from The Ohio State University. She played five seasons with the Buckeyes, winning two Big Ten Titles, including the programs first in 2002. Neely Noel earned two degrees; a B.S. in Industrial Design and a B.A. in Fine Arts. She also holds a Master of Education from Grand Valley State University.
