The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive USL League Two affiliate of New York City FC, are pleased to announce the signing of UMass Lowell pair Renato Kauzlaric and Eddie Speed for the upcoming 2019 season.
Kauzlaric, a rising sophomore, had two goals and two assists in 17 matches (11 starts) as a freshman. He had 16 shots with eight on target. A native of Croatia, Kauzlaric was named America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 24 and earned a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team.
“Renato is a very talented attacking midfielder who can play wide or in the middle,” Rough Riders head coach Stephen Roche said. “He can score and create goals. He has a big future in the game and I believe this summer will be a breakout season for him.”
Speed, a rising redshirt senior, was a stalwart in midfield for UMass Lowell, appearing in 16 matches with 11 starts. He had two goals and four assists as a sophomore in 2016.
“Eddie has been great to deal with in the recruiting process,” Roche said. “He has a great attitude and work ethic. I’m looking forward to working with Eddie this summer.”
The Rough Riders begin their 2019 USL League Two campaign against league newcomers Cedar Stars Rush on Saturday, May 11. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
