ROUGH RIDERS SIGN VENEZIA SISTERS
Both Niccola and Francesca currently play at the Division I level
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – (Tuesday, April 24, 2017) – The Long Island Rough Riders women’s team is pleased today to announce the signings of Niccola and Francesca Venezia for the upcoming 2017 season.
Niccola, 20, is a junior midfielder at the University of Miami, while Francesca, 19, is a sophomore forward at Boston College. Niccola has four assists in 35 games for the Hurricanes. Francesca played in nine games in his first season for the Golden Eagles.
“Niccola is a technically gifted midfielder who allows the team to possess the center of the field and switch the point of attack,” Rough Riders general manager Flavio Ferri said. “Francesca plays up top and is able to break down defenders 1-v-1. They complement each other on the field and we’re excited to have both back this season.”
Prior to college, the sisters starred for St. Anthony’s High School, leading the Friars to the 2014 state championship. St. Anthony’s won the title again in 2015 during Francesca’s senior year. Niccola played club at Farmingdale United, being named State Cup champions in 2008 and from 2010-15. Francesca played club soccer for East Meadow Stars 98 and Albertson Fury 98.
