The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City FC, recorded one win and one defeat during a two-game road trip this past weekend. Long Island defeated Evergreen FC 5-1 on Saturday evening at Evergreen Sportsplex, and lost 2-0 to Ocean City Nor’easters on Sunday at Carey Stadium.
Pouring rain certainly didn’t affect the Rough Riders’ play against Evergreen FC as the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 30 minutes thanks to goals by Charlie Ledula and Dexter Alexander; both assists coming from Sebastian Gordillo. Arthur Bosua added a third just before halftime as Long Island held a 3-0 lead at the interval.
The Rough Riders didn’t let up in the second half. Gordillo added to his impressive game, converting a penalty kick in the 47th minute. Harrison Weilbacher made it 5-0 in the 68th minute. Evergreen FC avoided a shutout with a goal in the 88th.
Unfortunately, Long Island couldn’t continue its momentum a day later in New Jersey against the Nor’easters. Ocean City scored once in each half to come away with a 2-0 victory.
Following the weekend, the Rough Riders are 5-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the PDL. Long Island is tied atop the PDL Eastern Conference Mid-Atlantic Division with New York Red Bulls Under-23 and Reading United AC with 12 points apiece, but sits in third place based on goal differential.
The club plays its next three games at home with Lehigh Valley United (June 6), Reading United AC (June 9), and FA Euro New York (June 16) visiting Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
