Women Fall Short, Men Walk Away With Tie

The Long Island Rough Riders played two very important matches at Cy Donnelly Stadium, Saturday, but unfortunately came up short in both matches.

The Women started the night off against the second place New England Mutiny. The Rough Riders needed a win and were off to their ideal start when Alexa Schneider scored off a set piece in the 13th minute.

However, The Rough Riders were not able to finish out either half and allowed goals in the 44th minute and 90th minute. The late half goals earned the New England Mutiny a 2-1 victory. The Rough Riders have only allowed two goals or more twice this season and both matches were against the Mutiny. Those results are the difference between the second place New England Mutiny and the third place Rough Riders.

The Men’s team would follow in a crucial matchup with the Seacoast United Phantoms. Once again, the Rough Riders were off to a good start when Junior Rosero continued his excellent form with a goal in the 28th minute. Rosero’s goal would be his fifth goal in his last four games.  Seacoast was able to answer in the 40th minute when Sebastian Blickman headed in a cross to even the game at a goal apiece.

The game would remain at 1-1 despite the Rough Riders out shooting the Phantoms 20-8. The result likely took the Rough Riders out of playoff contention.
