The Rough Riders suffered a heartbreaking loss Friday night against the Western Mass Pioneers in front of a packed crowd at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Massachusetts. The game was evenly matched from the get go with the Rough Riders seeing more of the ball and Western Mass looking counter attack once they regained possession. Western Mass broke through in the 40th minute off a deflected shot from the top of the box.
The second half went much the same way as the first half with the Rough Riders looking to break down their opponents with controlled possession. They were rewarded in the 75th minute with a penalty kick, converted by Dominic Marshall, his 3rd goal of the season. The Rough Riders went down to 10 men in the 79th minute when Glen Reid received his 2nd caution. The sending off did little to change the game with the Rough Riders still enjoying more possession.
Just when it looked like the teams would each walk away with well-earned point, the pioneers were awarded a penalty kick in stoppage time. The converted PK would seal the game for the Pioneers. The Rough Riders now have to brush off the disappointing loss as they play FC Boston Saturday night in another crucial division match up to end their two game road trip.
