Plainview, NY – The Long Island Rough Riders officially welcome back Thomas Wharf for his 5th season with the Rough Riders. The British center back will continue to anchor the team’s defense wearing the number 5 on his jersey.
“We are thrilled Thomas will be returning for his 5th consecutive season with our PDL team”, said Rough Riders General Manager Flavio Ferri. “Thomas is one of the anchors of our defensive system and is one of the top center backs in the league.”
Wharf received All-American honors as a player by the NCAA in 2007 and 2008 and was a PDL team of the year selection in 2009 playing for Panama City. In 2012, his division 1 college team, the University of Connecticut Huskies, won the Big East regular Season Championship.
“I’m really looking forward to my 5th Season as a Rough Riders. We have great squad depth this season having added some exciting players to our experienced returners”, Wharf said. “I can’t wait to kick off this year’s PDL Season.”
In 2014, Thomas led a defense that on average gave up less than one goal per game. Despite playing through some nagging injuries, Thomas earned a spot on the Eastern Conference team of the year.
“I am confident that we can make a real push to become national champions having painfully missed out on the playoffs in the penultimate game last season.”
The Long Island Rough Riders start off their season on Saturday May 9th against Westchester FC. Tickets are available at www.liroughriders.com. The Rough Riders offer many ticket options for home games in order to provide interactive fun for family and friends.
