Hospital’s Athletic Trainers to work with athletes on injury prevention, recuperation

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders, exclusive PDL affiliate of New York City Football Club, today are proud to announce a four-year partnership with NYU Winthrop Hospital.

NYU Winthrop Hospital, an affiliate of NYU Langone, will make athletic trainers available to the club. Certified under New York State law, the trainers will provide advice to athletes, parents and the club’s coaching staff on injury prevention, conditioning programs, and assist in the preparation, selection and fitting of protective equipment and pre-injury screening.

“Injury prevention and proper treatment of training and game-related injuries are essential in sports.  The Long Island Rough Riders partnering with NYU Winthrop Hospital and its staff provides our players invaluable resources and care,” Rough Riders general manager Flavio Ferri said.

NYU Winthrop Hospital trainers will perform the initial on-field assessment of injuries sustained during games and practices. They will provide first aid and triage in coordination with athlete injuries, as well as advise on the design and implementation of fitness and conditioning programs for athletes pursuant to physician’s orders.
