World Cup Champion soccer clinic

The Long Island Rough Riders were proud to host a coaching session conducted by U.S World Cup winning star Heather O’Reilly on Saturday, August 19th at a sold out soccer clinic at Globall Sports Centers in Garden City at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

The midfielder won the World Cup in Canada this summer with the US women’s national team and has been a key member of the squad since 2002, winning multiple honors including Olympic gold medals in 2004, 2008 and 2012. She currently also plays with FC Kansas City having recently transferred from Boston Breakers and is signed as an official Adidas endorsed athlete.

The clinic gave 80 girls between the ages of 7-18 the opportunity to train with Heather and the experienced Rough Riders coaches for two hours. The focus of the clinic was to improve the players in 1v1 situations and also in fast paced attacking situations, with the drills being tailored to all age groups in attendance.

The clinic gave the players the chance to meet with Heather to understand what it takes to progress their individual game to the next level and to learn how Heather succeeded in becoming a star for the national team.

One of the final highlights of the event was a 30 minute question and answer session with Heather. At this point the girls got the chance to gain further knowledge on Heather’s experiences and advice on how to become a champion in soccer. To remember this special day, Heather finished the clinic by signing the girls’ jerseys and taking photographs with everyone that attended the clinic.
