Jess Garziano named USL Super League Player of the Month

Life just keeps getting better and better for Jessica Garziano.

The former Long Island Rough Riders midfielder was named the USL Super League player of the month.

Garziano scored the first goal in Brooklyn FC history during its inaugural away match at Spokane Zephyr FC on Sept. 8. That and her goal that started Brooklyn to a 2-0 victory over Dallas Trinity in its Sept. 25 home opener solidified her spot as the player of the month.

The Melville, N.Y. native started in all four matches and recorded five shots, three shots on target, won 24 duels and eight tackles, and sent in seven crosses while maintaining a 77.8 percent passing accuracy.

Garziano recently played for the Rough Riders in the USL W League, performing a pivotal role in helping the team win the USL W League’s Metropolitan Division.

“Signing Jessica to the Brooklyn team was an easy choice for us,” Brooklyn FC CEO Max Mansfield said in a statement in July. “We are excited to see her shine on the field as she’s already proven to have what it takes to be a star, having had one of the most decorated careers with the Long Island Riders and at St. John’s.”

Showcasing her potential, Garziano became the fourth player in St. John’s history to earn All-American honors, recording 10 goals and 11 assists. She also was named the Big East midfielder of the year and became only the third Red Storm player to receive conference honors four times.
